I AM FILLED WITH JOY RIGHT NOW
AFTER MY SLEEPLESS WEEK OF HOMEWORK AND PORTFOLIO WORK. I GOT ACCEPTED INTO THE COOPER UNION OUTREACH PROGRAM. I GET TO GO THIS SATURDAY! SO THIS IS HOW IT WENT DOWN ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 2009
I gave my portfolio to my art teacher at the end of the Friday school day so she can rearrange them and help me prepare for my portfolio review. I slept over house so I could get to Cooper Union on time. So I finished the remainder of three art pieces for my portfolio to have at least 11 pieces before I showed my portfolio on Saturday. I stayed up till 3 am doing that and went to sleep XD Her mom drove me to the university before 10 am. They changed the building so I had to go across the street to their new building. It looks so awesome on the inside! so when I reach the spot to wait to get our numbers, there were already like 67 or more in front of me XD. So I got number 68. texted me throughout the whole thing and kept me calm. While I was waiting, I couldn't stay focused so I left the building and went to go eat something with the $5 dollars my best friend's mom gave me. I relaxed in the park and saw a awesome fat husky dog and then made my way back to cooper Union.
I waited 30 more minutes for my number to be called and then while I was waiting, my number was skipped and I panicked. XD The helpers were so calm though and were like "here go ahead of this person." It was already 12:30pm So the guy, Brian, calls me to his table and I give him my portfolio and sketchbook. My heart was pounding because while I was waiting, people had such amazing paintings and huge drawings. They all went to art class and I never been to one! I felt very intimidated. I was thinking "This guy is gonna hate my portfolio! I have such small pieces" but then he opens to the first page and the first thing that comes out of his mouth was "Wow, I'm impressed." and I was so happy! Most of the comments I received were so wonderful. I only got two and they weren't even that bad. My self esteem went up a lot. He said that I wasn't afraid to be messy like most artists are, I used a great meduim for my second piece to portray hurt, he loved my techniques for a ballerina picture I did. He said that I should be very careful in putting manga work in my portfolio but he said my eyes were filled with so much emotion and depth that he didn't mind that I put two manga pieces in there. He loved my water color pieces but disliked my still-life which I'm pretty glad cause I did that at 1:00 am XD. Her looked at my sketchbook where there was a lot of manga pieces and he was always fascinated with the way I do eyes. I had a bunch of hand drawings and he said that they had so much elegance and style to it and that I drew them as if they glass! as if they were transparent.
After he was done reviewing my small amount of work, the criticisms he gave was that he wished to see more work and that the still life was not interesting. Then it was just good stuff like "You have true ability. The mechanical pencil is definitely your tool. I want to see you work in a lot more mediums and some of your pieces blew me away." I was so happy, I thanked him and left smiling out of the building :]
That was my first time ever doing something like that and getting such great comments put a lot of confidence in me. so I received the news today that I got in and I was joyous! I get to start class on Saturday now >3<
Long story but I wanted to remember it so I have to write it down!
